Whether you like it or not, you will certainly be served ‘Lalagia’ (Λαλάγγια) when you visit local taverns in Mani. Lalagia is very often one of the side dishes in salads or part of the ‘meze’, or dessert, a traditional snack in many houses in Mani and Messinia. The deep-fried bread pieces also make a great snack when you pack your beach bag!
You can nowadays find lalagia in most bakeries and supermarkets but the homemade one tastes the best! To make your lalagia at home, all you need is flour, olive oil, dry yeast, salt, some lukewarm water and oil for frying. There are a variety of recipes but I like the recipe from Dimitra’s Dishes the most and think it gives you more information of the different variations of lalagia. The ingredients are in the video description.
