Professional help in choosing insurance for property, car or boat

Many of our customers ask for professional help in choosing insurance for their property, car or boat. Although in Greece it is not mandatory to have property insurance, almost all our clients take it out anyway. But what type of insurance and level of cover you should have? And how much you can afford for the insurance?

The topic is important and therefore we are happy that Eleni Koutoulea, a certified insurance broker, wanted to answer some questions. Eleni recently opened an office in Stoupa (we support all local businesses of course!) and you will find her email and phone number in this publication.

Can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers? You were born in Mani, is that right?

Professional-help-in-choosing-insurance-for-property-car-or-boatHello! Yes, that’s correct! I was born and raised in Messinian Mani and more specifically in Kastania village. As soon as I graduated school, I went to Athens to study where I lived for 12 years. In the last 2 years, I have returned permanently to my place of origin, where it was my dream to return and start my own business.

Elias and I would like to wish you great success in your business endeavours. Glad you came back to Mani! You will help identify and organise appropriate insurance cover for your clients. And you work as an insurance agent, right?

Yes, that’s correct, I am an agent and I am at your disposal for any questions or help you need regarding insurances. My email is ek@brocare.gr and my phone number is +306982568016.

Many of our customers are thinking of building their own houses here. At what stage in the house-buying process should the client get buildings insurance? And what documents does he need?

There are many different types of insurance that may be appropriate at this stage. For example, at the beginning of construction, the owner may take out third party liability insurance (this covers the property owner in the event of an accident during the work). Or we may recommend all-risk liability insurance. I can explain this in more detail in a personal meeting. And when a house is ready, it can be insured against possible dangers, such as fire, theft, earthquake and other weather phenomena.

And what documents does the client need?

No specific documents are needed. I send to the customers an insurance application that they complete either alone or in collaboration which is the best way to help them. Then i send the application to the insurance company and they inform us of the detailed coverage we want.

Do they have to visit you personally to sign the insurance contracts or can it be done by the client’s lawyer who has the power of attorney?

They can do it both ways, but also electronically.
